How the calculation works
Gold content value = bar weight in grams × fineness / 1,000 × indicative price per gram. If you enter a dealer price: premium = dealer price − gold content value; premium percentage = premium / gold content value × 100.
For example, a 30 g bar at 999.9 fineness and an assumed $100 per gram contains 29.997 g of pure gold, worth $2,999.70 in metal. A $3,150 dealer price adds a $150.30 premium, about 5.01%. This example is illustrative, not a current quote.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a gold bar worth?
A bar's metal value depends on its weight, fineness and the current reference gold price. Multiply weight in grams by fineness divided by 1,000, then by the pure-gold price per gram. A dealer's selling or buyback price can differ.
Is a one-ounce gold bar the same as 28.35 grams?
No. Precious metals use the troy ounce: 1 troy ounce equals 31.1034768 grams. An ordinary avoirdupois ounce is about 28.35 grams. Choose troy ounces when valuing a one-ounce gold bar.
What is a gold bar premium?
The premium is the dealer selling price minus the estimated value of the gold content. Divide that difference by the gold content value and multiply by 100 to express it as a percentage. Taxes, delivery, fabrication and dealer margins may affect the amount you pay.
Will I receive the calculated value when I sell?
Not necessarily. A buyer may account for assaying, refining, margins, condition and brand. This calculator estimates the metal content; it does not verify authenticity or provide a dealer offer. Compare actual buyback quotes.
