Frequently asked questions
How does the calculator work?
Weight is converted to grams, multiplied by the pure-gold share (fineness), divided by 31.1035 to get troy ounces, then multiplied by the live XAU/USD price and the official rate of the selected currency.
Why is the price at a pawnshop or bank different?
The calculator shows the market value of the contained pure gold. Sellers add a premium, buy-back desks apply a discount, and taxes may apply. The gap versus the computed value is the cost of the specific deal.
Where does the data come from?
The gold price comes from Gold API (indicative spot, updated every few seconds); FX rates come from Frankfurter (official daily central-bank rates). The page recalculates at least hourly.
